Upgrading our 2023 Can Am Maverick X3

2023 Can Am X3 Upgrades

We got some work done on our 2023 Can Am Maverick X3 and couldn’t be happier with the results!!

Oh the People You Meet!

Life is funny.  Sometimes people are put in your path, and you don’t always know why.  It might be because you need help you didn’t know you needed yet, or they need help and you’re the right person for the job.  Sometimes though, people get put in your path to help you spend your money.

That’s what happened here….lol  On our family vacation to Jamaica in May 2024 we met a really nice couple from Tenessee.  Karen started talking with them in the pool one day, and the topic got to side-by-sides, and ultimately Can Am’s.  So Karen calls me over and we got to talking about some recent work they had done to theirs – and it was exactly what I wanted to do to ours!

The recommendation was a fabricator in Taylorsville, KY – just outside of Louisville:  MGC Offroad.  I started messaging Coty, the owner and master fabricator, through Facebook Messenger, then via text.  Super nice, laidback guy.  We talked through the general idea of what I wanted to do, costs, and set a date for me to bring it down to his shop.

You Gotta Make it Your Own!

So what work did we want to have done?

  • Roll cage with a lower profile than stock
  • Flat roof with plexiglass inserts
  • Full metal doors
  • Front bumper, winch ready
  • Bed delete
  • Side exit exhaust
  • Rear rack with hinged tire carrier, tabs for whips
  • Install new windshield (I brought with)
  • Custom color: Illusion Malbec (wine of course!)

And that’s how the conversation went…I didn’t really know what to expect, Coty said once he got into it he’d send pics to get my approval to his ideas before he did permanent welds.

A Master at Work

And the pictures began…. this was the first picture I got as he had the windshield installed and test fitting the cage.

When I dropped off the Can Am he had me sit in it like I normally do and measured my head so he knew approximately how low he could go to keep it comfortable for me, and accommodate the windshield.

I was now getting very excited!

The Build Process

Coty kept me in the loop during the entire process.  He’d text me pictures and ask questions about a particular part of the build to see if his ideas were meeting my expectations.  Coty has enough experience building these out that his vision guides him through your wishlist items.

Finally it came down to the final approval so he could do permanent welds and send off to powder coating.

The Final Result

Coty started to send me pictures of the final result, it looked amazing and exceeded all expectations!!  It was even better when I saw it in person.

All of the tube work was powder coated in Illusion Malbec, you know, because we like wine. 😉  The full doors and bed delete were done in flat black. Since we ride in the desert more often we thought it’d hide the scratches better.

Total build cost (Summer 2024) was around $7000 for everything we had done.  And that side exhaust??  Sounds amazing!!!

Final Thoughts

We couldn’t be happier with Coty of MGC Offroad and his work, he’s a true craftsman and an all-around super personable guy.  I’d recommend him to anyone without question.  We had a lot of work done for a very reasonable price, the quality is strong, the communication was consistent.  10/10!
